Derby winner checks into Pimlico for Preakness
May 7, 2012BALTIMORE (AP) - Kentucky Derby winner I'll Have Another has arrived at Pimlico Race Course, where he will continue his bid to win the Triple Crown in the Preakness on May 19.
The chestnut colt was taken by charter plane from Kentucky to Baltimore on Monday afternoon and received a police escort from Baltimore-Washington International Airport to Pimlico.
It's the earliest arrival by a Derby winner since Monarchos was shipped just four days after his 2001 victory.
Instead of staying in Stall 40, the traditional Pimlico home of the Derby winner, I'll Have Another was taken into Barn D - next to the Preakness Stakes barn - with five other horses trained by Doug O'Neill.
He will remain there until the race.
I'll Have Another won the Kentucky Derby as a 15-1 shot.
